These products were discovered and created sometime around the 1900's for stained or discolored teeth often from smoking or other teeth staining products.

The two types of products that are used for teeth whitening trays are carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide. These chemicals are used for the bleaching of the teeth. The strength of these products are much lower in over-the-counter kits than at the dentist's office.

Recently there has been a new product on the market which is a teeth whitening gel. This new product has eliminated the cumbersome use of trays that you have to keep in your mouth for a period of time.

This gel is applied to your teeth twice a day and in no time your teeth will look whiter. This looks like a step up from the old tray method.

So should you get your teeth whitened at the dentist's office or should you try purchasing it over the counter or online? You may find that you can save a lot of money by purchasing the kit over the counter or online and doing it yourself.
