Teeth Whitening Trays - Bleaching Gel Application Comparisons For a Brighter Whiter Smile
Posted Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Every manufacturer claims to have the best applicator for whitening teeth. Many whitening products have similar amounts of carbamide peroxide and/or hydrogen peroxide. For that reason, you would think they would produce comparable results if you base your assessment solely on ingredients.
This sounds reasonable, but what about the way the whitener is applied to the teeth? Does the application method affect the overall results in any way? How much of the whitening product you apply to your teeth will affect the end result. This offers support for the use of teeth whitening trays as a method of applying gel whiteners.
Whitening of the teeth is a process of oxidation, meaning air has to react with the chemical for the process to take place. As the oxidation occurs, the chemical ingredient loses its strength and stops performing. For this reason, it is best that the chemical get to the teeth as quickly as possible after it leaves its sealed container. The less air it is exposed to, the better.
Whitening strips placed on the teeth can be put in place very quickly after being removed from their sealed package, so this makes them a good way to whiten your teeth.
The applicator pen places the whitening gel directly on the teeth as it comes out of the pen. The exposure time to air is very limited, making it another good application method.
Teeth whitening trays allow for a longer period of exposure to the air before application than the other two methods. So, does that mean that this is the least effective way to whiten teeth?
Let's introduce another variable at this point. Just how much coverage of the teeth do you achieve with each system? Strips may or may not give full coverage, and there may be less active whitener applied to begin with. When applying with a pen, it is possible to miss some areas, especially when you are whitening your own teeth.
If the teeth whitening trays used are the deep variety, the gel has a much better chance of coating all of the teeth than the other two methods.
Some people just prefer one method to another. Just because dentists use teeth whitening trays, it does not mean they are better than other product applicators. Often times it is just a matter of personal choice.
Whatever method you choose for applying gel whiteners, you can achieve a gorgeous white smile, boost your self-confidence, and make a great impression on others.
