Dental Veneers: How Much Does It Cost To Get Porcelain Veneers

By: Frank Denber

Porcelain veneers cost are high compared to other methods of cosmetic dentistry. There is also a difference in the quality and price of different types of porcelain. The best materials cost most and can last up to twenty years.

Another factor that has influence on the pricing of veneers is the complexity of the work involved. Every tooth is different and needs individual treatment. Each porcelain veneer is hand made, exactly matching a particular tooth of the patient. The more work involved with a tooth the higher the price.

Don't forget the cost for the dentist. The location, experience and equipment will play a big role in pricing as well. Don't expect that cosmetic dentistry is the same as normal dentistry. It requires special skills and experience and you shouldn't go with a bad dentist to save money. It doesn't pay. It's important that the dentist has access to the latest materials as well.

Porcelain veneers are not a fix for bad teeth. For that you would probably need a crown or a dental implant. Veneers are put on healthy teeth to make them look beautiful. Veneers are also useful to fill some tooth gaps probably but the best use is when you aim for a complete smile makeover.

Unfortunately the costs of the veneers are high and the fact that the insurance does not cover the costs makes them even more costly. The insurance would only pay for the dentist if there would be a medical reason but not for cosmetic purposes. If you can not pay for a smile makeover, you can sometimes pick up attractive offers from financing companies that are specialized on cosmetic dentistry.

Today's porcelain veneers are very strong and durable. You can get them in the exact color of your existing teeth so that the look perfectly natural. It takes a bit time to make them by hand but then your cosmetic dentist can put the veneers onto your teeth in just one treatment session. After a few days later you get used to the different feeling.

There is also a new type of veneer called Lumineers. They are extremely thin what means that there is just little tooth reduction needed to put them on. This is also its biggest disadvantage though because it means that the ability for teeth correction is limited.

Keep in mind that veneers are not just a cosmetic treatment and if you don't like them you just take them off. They usually require tooth reduction and once you have veneers you must use them for the rest of your life. That means after 10 to 20 years you will have to replace them and pay a second time the full costs. The better the work in the beginning therefore the more benefits you have long term.
