Think only women get age spots? Think again. Actually, male age spots are very common, too, and they're not really the result of aging. Instead, they're the result of skin damage caused by too much sun exposure. As you expose your skin to the sun, melanin can build up in it, and this in turn forms age spots.

In addition to the above mentioned sun exposure, there is some evidence that heredity, too, plays a role in the formation of male age spots. That is, if you've got male relatives who easily formed age spots, you're much more likely to get them as you get older, too.

What do male age spots look like and where do they occur?

In general, sun spots occur in the areas that get the most sun exposure, both deliberate and incidental. You're likely to see these flat, pigmented areas on your arms, face, hands, and shoulders. They can be in shades of brown, gray or black, depending on your skin's natural pigment.

How can you get rid of the brown spots?

Whatever their cause or whatever they're called, though, male sun spots are just as unsightly as those on women are. And, chances are, if you've got them, you'd like to get rid of them.

So, the first thing you do to fade the ugly spots is to start avoiding the sun as much as you can. That doesn't mean you have to stay out of the sun altogether, but do wear sunscreen whenever you are out.

In addition, avoiding exposure altogether when the sun is at its strongest between about 10 in the morning and four in the afternoon is going to help minimize those age spots.

Topical medications that can help. "Bleaching" medications can also help fade brown spots.

Hydroquinone is one such medication, but be careful when you use it. It's going to "bleach" skin you DON'T have age spots on as much as it is the age spots themselves. So you have to be careful to only apply it to the age spots.

Other things you can do...topical applications for skin improvement and wrinkle reduction can also help fade male sun spots.

Alpha hydroxy acid, beta hydroxy acid, and retinols and retinoids can help fade spots. Unlike hydroquinone, these are topical "all over" medications that aren't just spot-specific, so you can use them (within reason and sparingly) wherever you'd like to see skin texture improved.

Be careful, though, because both these and hydroquinone can be irritating if not used properly, or in some cases you may have an allergic reaction to them. Stop using these topical preparations if you have a reaction and see your doctor.

More intensive interventions...if your sun spots are particularly severe and you want to seek medical help to get rid of them, laser therapy and chemical peels can also help resurface skin and get rid of the spots altogether. See a qualified medical specialist to determine whether such an intervention is proper for you.

But, there is a more natural approach! If you've got male age spots and you don't want to use chemical peels or harsh medications, a product with an ingredient called extrapone nutgrass may just help you get rid of them naturally.

Take a look at the natural whitening cream to learn more about this and other amazing natural ingredients which gently removes your skin's sun spots with no fuss, no muss, and no danger of irritation.
