Today there is a rush in the medical field to produce the latest in acne care products. Many of these are very good - and they seem to be getting better all the time. While the best products are by prescription only, there still are some excellent things out there that can definitely help. This article will identify different types of options that are available today.

Keep Your Face Clean

Since acne is largely caused by excessive oils and certain bacteria, a simple solution that will often help is to keep your face clean. By using a mild soap at least twice a day, you will often find that this alone will help control the acne. It is especially helpful to shower after strenuous activities. And if you have oily hair, it may need to be washed every day, and try to keep it off your forehead, too. It is also a good idea to try and keep your hands away from your face, too.

Another thing that will help in acne care is to ensure that you use products that are labeled noncomedogenic. This means that cosmetic and haircare products such as your foundations, blushes, moisturizers, etc., as well as the hair spray you use, could aggravate your acne unless you use this type of product.

Over-The-Counter Medications

Many over-the-counter medications will help alleviate mild forms of acne. Probably the ingredient that you need to look for is benzoyl peroxide, which is one of the most effective. Other ingredients that will also help remove blackheads and whiteheads include Resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur. Acne medications come in various forms - creams, liquids, etc.

Prescription Medications

For the more serious forms of acne you need to consult with a dermatologist. They can prescribe a medication that is suited to your particular need, and make adjustments if necessary. These may take the form of a medication, or an antibiotic - or both. Another type of prescription medication is a form of vitamin A called retinoids, along with a few others. For the ladies, something that is rather new is the putting of prescription medicines into your cosmetics, and these can be ordered specially according to your need and the doctor's prescription.

Extreme Care

When there are some more serious forms of acne, then there are other forms of acne care. These may involve laser techniques and even some forms of surgery to remove the comedones. Other treatments may involve the injection of corticosteroids into the comedone itself.
